Since founding 30A Landscape Architect in 2000, Alan D. Holt has worked on a wide array of projects, but his true passion lies in residential design. Collaborating directly with clients to create custom outdoor living environments allows him to combine creativity, technical expertise, and an intimate understanding of how people use their homes’ landscapes. From pools, fountains, and outdoor kitchens to fire pits, seating walls, walkways, gates, and motor courts, Alan enjoys designing every element that transforms a property into a cohesive, functional, and beautiful outdoor space. His portfolio spans styles from formal English gardens and Polynesian landscapes to tropical, modern, traditional, and retro designs—demonstrating both versatility and a flair for creative expression.
Alan’s connection to Northwest Florida began in his youth in Panama City, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for the region’s native landscapes and plants. After high school, he explored a variety of work experiences—including retail, lifeguarding, and construction—which shaped his work ethic and introduced him to the practical side of building environments. A formative role with a landscape contractor ultimately revealed his true calling: landscape architecture.
Alan pursued this passion at the University of Georgia School of Environmental Design, following initial studies in business at Georgia State University. While at UGA, he distinguished himself academically and professionally, earning recognition in the National Honor Society for Landscape Architects for his dedication and achievement.
After graduation, Alan gained extensive experience across the South, first in Nashville, TN, designing parks, recreational, and commercial projects with a large firm, then in Knoxville, TN, working with a smaller studio on more specialized projects. These opportunities gave him a broad understanding of design, construction, and installation processes, and a deep appreciation for how landscapes evolve over decades—a perspective he describes as designing in “4D,” visualizing each project from conception to full maturity.
Returning to Panama City with his wife Jill and son Braeden, Alan served as the Landscape Architect for a local design-build firm, overseeing projects from concept to installation. Drawing on these experiences, he launched 30A Landscape Architect, serving communities across Northwest Florida—from Pensacola to St. George Island and along 30A. Today, Alan is licensed to provide landscape architectural services in 15 states, working with both residential and commercial clients across the U.S.
Alan and his family enjoy life along the white-sand beaches of Northwest Florida, drawing inspiration from the lush coastal landscapes that inform his work. Whether designing a serene residential retreat or a dynamic outdoor living environment, Alan brings creativity, technical expertise, and a lifelong passion for landscapes to every project.
