Since opening his own firm, Alan has been blessed with every type of project imaginable, but his favorite is residential design. The opportunity to work directly with the Client on their home's outdoor living spaces is unlike any other type of design. The opportunity for creativity and the chance to design everything outside of the home is his passion. Designing custom pools, fountains, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, stairs, seat walls, fences, gates, walkways, motor courts and all of the other exciting elements that make up a residential design is what Alan dreamt of in College. The challenge of taking a theme and expressing it in the landscape is a wonderful experience, as well. Alan has designed a wide variety of outdoor spaces including everything from formal English gardens, Polynesian landscape gardens as well as designs for tropical, traditional, modern, retro and everything in between.
Alan grew up in Panama City, Florida and gained an appreciation for the beauty of the North Florida native landscapes and plants. After high school, Alan took a gap year and worked various jobs from retail sales, lifeguarding and construction. Alan learned new skills from all these jobs but found his true passion for Landscape Architecture after going to work for a landscape contractor and working in the field. After saving enough money to pay for his first year of college, Alan enrolled in Georgia State University to study business. He enjoyed the business school, but was drawn to Landscape Architecture after reading every issue of Landscape Architecture magazine in the library which motivated him to pursue the passion he had for design. Alan immediately enrolled in the School of Environmental Design at the University of Georgia to pursue his passion. He continued to work hard while at the University of Georgia and his love for his career path and GPA was rewarded when he was named to the National Honor Society for Landscape Architects recognizing his hard work.
After graduating from the University of Georgia Landscape Architecture program, Alan moved to Nashville, Tennessee taking his first job working for a large firm designing a variety of projects, including many Parks and Recreational as well as Commercial projects across the South. Alan's, next opportunity to expand his knowledge and experience in Landscape Architecture would be in Knoxville, TN when he joined a smaller firm providing a new and different type of project experience. After being away from Panama City for approximately 10 years, Alan, his wife, Jill and their son Braeden moved back home to pursue a new job offer. Upon moving back to Panama City, Alan worked as the Landscape Architect for a landscape design build firm serving Bay County. This gave Alan a new experience of being involved in the whole process from conceptual design to installation. Each opportunity gave Alan a great understanding of a large variety of design, construction and installation as well as how important an design will look in 5, 10, 20 years. Landscape Architects design in 4D and gives them the unique ability to visualize the design from conception to maturity.
In April 2000, Alan started his own firm serving communities from Pensacola to St. George Island as well as communities along 30a and across Northwest Florida. He works with clients both residential and commercial to meet their Landscape Architectural needs. Alan is licensed to perform Landscape Architectural services in 15 states serving corporate clients across the US.
